Zonal Agricultural & Horticultural Research Station to host 2-day Krishi Mela 2025 on Oct 11-12

Udupi, Oct 9: The Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station (ZAHRS), Brahmavar, will organize a two-day ‘Krishi Mela 2025’ on October 11 and 12.

The programme is jointly organized by ZAHRS, Brahmavar and Ullal; Krishi Vigyana Kendra, Brahmavar; Diploma Agriculture College, Brahmavar of Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, in collaboration with the departments of agriculture, horticulture, animal husbandry, fisheries and forest, Udupi district, Udupi zilla panchayat, Zilla Krishika Samaja Udupi and DK, National Rural Livelihood Mission – Sanjeevini, Bank of Baroda, Udupi, Canara Bank Brahmavar, and Shri Kshetra Dharmasthala Rural Development Project, Udupi.

Addressing a press conference on October 9, Dr Sudeer Kamath, principal, Diploma Agriculture College, said, "Over the years, Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, has been organizing agricultural fests for the benefit of local farmers and those from neighbouring districts through its affiliated institute, the Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Station, Brahmavar, on a large scale. This year too, we are organizing a two-day Krishi Mela 2025 to update the farming community on modern technologies in agriculture."

The programme will showcase various paddy varieties, including Sahyadri Brahma, Sahyadri Panchamukhi, Sahyadri Saptami, and Kaje 25-9, along with future varieties planned for release in the zone, displayed in standing condition. Latest technologies such as the power tiller-operated multi-crop seed drill, improved cono weeder, power-operated paddy weeder, and alert systems against wild animal invasion will also be introduced to farmers.

The fair will be inaugurated by Lakshmi R Hebbalkar, minister for women and child development, empowerment of differently abled and senior citizens, and Udupi district in-charge minister. Agriculture minister Chaluvarayaswamy will grace the occasion. The agricultural exhibition will be inaugurated by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, while Udupi MLA Yashpal Suvarna will preside over the programme. Deputy commissioner Swaroopa T K, CEO Prathik Bayal, superintendent of police Hariram Shankar, MLAs and other dignitaries will be present.

The members of the board of management of Keladi Shivappa Nayaka University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga, will felicitate progressive farmers. A technical bulletin will also be released on the occasion.

A seminar on ‘Profitable Management in Horticultural Crops’ will be held in the afternoon session of the first day. On the second day, seminars on ‘District-level Cashew Seminar and Future Profitable Crops for Coastal Zone of Karnataka State and Hi-Tech Farming’ and ‘Integrated and Sustainable Rice-based Cropping Systems’ are scheduled.
