Karkala, Oct 11: Police investigation is underway in connection with the suicide of a 23-year-old youth from Nitte, who reportedly left a death note alleging blackmail by his friends. As part of the probe, police have seized the mobile phones of four friends and are examining them from various technical angles.

The deceased, Abhishek Acharya (23), a resident of Parappady in Nitte village, had died by suicide on Thursday at a private lodge in Belman. A case in this regard has been registered at the Karkala Rural police station.

According to Udupi superintendent of police (SP) Hariram Shankar, preliminary investigations suggest that Abhishek took the extreme step due to a failed love affair. Police sources added that he had been suffering from mental distress over the past few days, as informed by his family.

In the death note recovered from the scene, Abhishek mentioned that four of his friends were blackmailing him. Their mobile phones have been seized for further investigation. However, police clarified that there is no confirmation yet on whether the girl involved had shared any videos or participated in the alleged blackmail.

SP Hariram Shankar also confirmed that the girl’s mobile phone has been taken into custody as part of the ongoing investigation.
