Prashanth A Gatti elected unopposed as president of Mangaluru HOPCOMS

Mangaluru, Oct 11: Prashanth A Gatti from Mangaluru taluk has been elected unopposed as the president of the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi District Horticultural Producers’ Cooperative Marketing and Processing Society (HOPCOMS), Mangaluru, for a term of five years. Sachin Kumar B from Puttur taluk has been elected unopposed as the vice president.

The election for the posts of president and vice president was conducted by Triveni Rao K, assistant registrar of cooperative societies.

The meeting was attended by directors Jayaprakash Koojugodu, Jayakumar Parkala, Harish, Yashodhara Shetty B, K Lakshminarayan Udupa, Seetharam Ganiga, Ratnaraj P, Ananth Padmanabh Udupa K, Vijaya Rai, Cheempa, Sundar Nayak, Nirmala, Mamatha M Shetty, and Subhadra Rao.

K Praveen, managing director and senior assistant director of horticulture, congratulated the newly elected president, vice president, and all members of the administrative board. The vote of thanks was proposed by Ravichandra Shetty, manager.

Speaking after being elected unopposed, president Prashanth A Gatti said that HOPCOMS is an extension of the horticulture department and that he has been closely observing its growth and development as a director for several years. He noted that despite limited authority and a defined scope of work, HOPCOMS earned recognition for ensuring the supply of vegetables across the district during the COVID-19 pandemic, thereby successfully reaching the general public.

He further added that HOPCOMS has effectively implemented a system of direct procurement from farmers in neighbouring taluks, ensuring that growers receive a fair price for their produce.
