Kasargod, Feb 13: The situation is returning to normal except for a few awkward incidents in the city and suburbs after the law and order situation took a bad turn two days ago.  Some miscreants damaged a few houses by pelting stones in the neighbourhood of Mipuguri, in the wee hours of Sunday February 12.

A parked vehicle at the residence of K T Narayan at Cherkalapady was set ablaze by unidentified persons.  The window panes of a house located in Kadappura Nellikunja were damaged in stone pelting.  The city police registered six cases related to law and order disturbance that broke out on Friday February 10.  At least 58 people were taken into custody as a preventive measure.

The police registered cases against 15 persons including Raju, Naveen, Sharat, Manoj, Dinesh, Kuttan, and Prashant for damaging the house of Abdul Hameed in Mipuguri through stone pelting.  The police also registered cases against Sanish, Jabir, Silad, and Jabid for damaging the motorcycle of K T Narayan in Cherkalapady.

The police have also taken into custody the motorcyclists who violated the prohibitory orders clamped by the district commissioner.  The prohibitory orders will be in force for a week.  Platoons of paramilitary forces are stationed in communally sensitive areas in the city to thwart any possible communal flare-ups.  Security men, including city police, held a march past in communally sensitive areas to restore public confidence.

Banners, buntings, and other hoardings erected in public places without the permission of the district administration were cleared on the night of Saturday February 11. The police are verifying the characters of persons who were held in custody for their involvement in law and order disturbances and are likely to include them in the rowdies list.
