Mangaluru, Oct 15: A one-day value-based orientation programme was organised at Carmel Central School, Kotekar, on October 13, with the aim of instilling strong moral values and essential life lessons among the students.
The session was graced by the presence of its principal, Sr Pramila D’Souza AC, vice principal, Sr Anitha AC, and coordinator, Tr Roopa. The resource person for the day was Fr Walter Mendonca, SVD, accompanied by William D’Souza, musician from the Divine Retreat Centre, Mulki.

The programme commenced with the school head girl escorting the dignitaries to the dais, followed by a prayer service invoking God’s blessings and the ceremonial lighting of the lamp. A warm welcome address was delivered by Sr Ashwina, who extended heartfelt greetings to all present and introduced the guests of the day.
Fr Walter Mendonca began the session with an enlightening reflection on the theme of ‘Light’, emphasising the importance of dispelling the darkness of ignorance through learning, awareness, and positive thinking. He captivated the students through inspiring videos and real-life examples, illustrating how right decisions, discipline, dedication, and honesty shape one’s destiny.
Father highlighted key aspects such as self-worth, time management, and the importance of prayer in leading a meaningful life. He reminded the students that there is no substitute for hard work, and that true success comes from clear goals, planning, and self-awareness.
The session concluded with words of gratitude to the resource person and his team for their insightful and inspiring presentation. The programme left a profound impact on the students, motivating them to remain honest, sincere, and determined in their journey towards success.
The one-day orientation proved to be both motivational and enriching, encouraging students to live a life of purpose, integrity, and moral strength truly illuminating young minds to move from ignorance to knowledge.
