New Delhi, Oct 17: A 13-year-old boy lost his life after being struck by a speeding Thar in Delhi’s Vasant Kunj area on October 15. The incident occurred near the Indian Oil petrol pump under Vasant Kunj North police station limits when the boy, a Class 8 student of Sarvodaya Vidyalaya residing in RK Puram, had stepped out to buy samosas.
Police reports indicate that the SUV hit the boy from behind with significant force, throwing him off his bicycle. The driver fled the scene immediately, leaving the child gravely injured. Locals rushed him to a nearby hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the Thar was being driven rashly on the right side of the road. Eyewitnesses confirmed that the vehicle did not stop after the collision. CCTV footage has been obtained, and police are working to identify the vehicle and its driver.
A case has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the Indian Penal Code. Multiple teams have been deployed to trace and apprehend the driver.
The incident has sparked outrage among residents, who have demanded stricter enforcement of traffic rules and speed control measures along the stretch, citing frequent instances of vehicles speeding near the Indian Oil petrol pump, endangering pedestrians and cyclists.
