Hyderabad, Oct 18: A special court in Ranga Reddy district on Friday sentenced 60-year-old tuition teacher Dronamraju Subramanyeshwar Rao to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs 5,000 fine for raping a 12-year-old girl in December 2017.

The victim, a resident of Hyderguda, Rajendranagar Mandal, had been attending Rao’s tuition classes. On the night of the incident, while her parents were away in Chennai, Rao allegedly sent other students away and sexually assaulted her at his residence.

A complaint was filed the next morning, and police registered a case under IPC Section 376(2)(f)(i), Sections 5(o) & 6 of the POCSO Act, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act. The investigation, led by Inspector V Umender and ACP K. Ashok Chakravarthy, collected crucial evidence, leading to the conviction.

The court also awarded Rs 3 lakh in compensation to the victim. Police described the verdict as a strong message against crimes targeting children, underscoring the need for swift justice under the POCSO Act.
