New Delhi, Oct 18: In an inspiring act of courage and medical expertise, Sepoy Sunil, an Ambulance Assistant from the 456 Field Hospital, saved the life of an eight-month-old infant who went into sudden respiratory arrest onboard the Rajdhani Express en route to Dibrugarh.
The incident occurred at around 4:30 PM on October 13, 2025, in the S4 coach of the train, when the infant became unresponsive and showed no signs of breathing or pulse. Panic quickly spread among passengers, and the situation worsened when the child’s mother fainted from shock.

Amid the chaos, Sepoy Sunil, who was travelling back from leave and happened to be in the same coach, immediately sprang into action. Assessing the critical condition of the child, he began paediatric CPR using the two-finger chest compression method along with mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Within two cycles of CPR, the infant began to respond — a moment of immense relief for everyone onboard. Sunil then coordinated with the train staff and Railway Police to arrange for the child’s evacuation and further medical care at Rangiya station.
Defence officials praised his swift response, noting that his composure, training, and sense of duty averted a potential tragedy. “Sepoy Sunil’s timely, professional, and selfless actions brought reassurance to many aboard and undoubtedly saved a young life,” said a senior official.
The incident underscores the vital importance of having trained medical personnel, even outside traditional clinical environments, and highlights the Indian Army’s commitment to service — whether on the battlefield or in everyday life.
