Goa needs sports schools to nurture young talent, says minister Tawadkar

Panaji, Oct 25: Goa’s sports minister Ramesh Tawadkar has emphasized the importance of setting up sports schools in the state to help identify and develop young athletic talent.

He said such institutions would allow children who aspire to build a career in sports to balance their athletic training with academic education. Tawadkar noted that Goa currently lacks adequate indoor sports infrastructure, which limits training opportunities for aspiring athletes.

The minister further highlighted that although qualified trainers are available, they have not been effectively utilized or provided with the necessary support and advanced training to enhance players’ skills.

Tawadkar added that the creation of dedicated sports schools and improved facilities would mark a major step toward building a stronger sporting culture in Goa.
