Patna, Oct 26: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar launched a fierce attack on the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Lalu Prasad Yadav family on Saturday, accusing them of dragging Bihar into a “dark era of crime, corruption, and chaos” during their rule from 1990 to 2005.
In a detailed post on X, the Chief Minister said Bihar was once synonymous with fear and lawlessness.
“People were afraid to leave their homes after 6 p.m. Crime had become an industry. Our sisters and daughters were not safe. Kidnapping and extortion were rampant, and industries had shut down due to terror,” Nitish wrote.

He alleged that the RJD regime had crippled governance to such an extent that “being called a Bihari had become a matter of shame.”
Nitish claimed that after his government came to power in 2005, restoring law and order became the top priority.
“We established the rule of law with zero tolerance for crime and corruption. Now, there is an atmosphere of love, brotherhood, and peace,” he said.
Highlighting progress in policing, the Chief Minister said Bihar now has over 1,380 police stations, up from 817 in 2005, and police personnel strength has grown from 42,000 to 1.25 lac.
He also underscored the government’s focus on women’s empowerment, noting that 35% of police posts are reserved for women, giving Bihar the highest female participation in the country’s police force.
“We have also formed the Tribal Women’s Self-Respect Battalion and started recruitment for over 2.29 lakh new police posts,” he added.
Nitish listed key reforms such as the creation of forensic labs, the State Constable Recruitment Board (2008), and the Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (2017) to strengthen policing and streamline recruitment.
He said the year 2005 marked a turning point for Bihar — “a shift from fear to hope, from chaos to development.”
“Today, Bihar is a land of opportunity. Our youth are getting jobs, industries are expanding, and being called a Bihari is now a matter of pride, not shame,” Nitish asserted.
Concluding his message, the Chief Minister said confidently, “The people of Bihar will never return to the era of anarchy.”
