Puttur, Oct 28: In a daring daylight theft, unidentified miscreants broke into a shop and decamped with around Rs 5 lac in cash at a store located near Gandhi Park here on October 27. The incident occurred at Gunjije Traders, a shop dealing in areca nut and forest produce.

Around 12 noon, the shop owner reportedly left the shutter open but locked the cash drawer before stepping out to use the restroom located at the rear side of the commercial complex. Upon returning, he found that the drawer had been broken open and approximately Rs 5 lac in cash was missing.

Although the shop was equipped with CCTV cameras, the system was switched off at the time of the incident, and hence, no footage of the theft was recorded.

Police are investigating the incident.
