Patiala, Oct 30: In a shocking incident at a wedding near Anandpur Sahib in Punjab’s Ropar district on Wednesday, retired Chandigarh DSP Dilsher Singh allegedly shot AAP functionary Nitin Nanda following a heated altercation.

According to police, the bullet struck Nanda on the back of his head, and he was immediately rushed to PGI Chandigarh, about 80 km away, where he underwent emergency surgery. A case of attempted murder has been registered against Dilsher Singh and two others, who are currently absconding. Police teams have launched a manhunt to trace the accused.

Preliminary investigations suggest that a long-standing property dispute between the two parties may have led to the violent confrontation. Nitin Nanda, who owns stone crushers in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh, had contested the Punjab Assembly elections in 2017 and 2022 but lost both times. He joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in May 2024.

Sources revealed that the former DSP fired from his licensed pistol, and police have so far recovered no empty shells from the scene. “According to Nanda’s relatives, three gunshots were fired, but initial evidence suggests a single shot,” said SSP Khurana.

The bullet reportedly grazed the back of Nanda’s head, and doctors have stated that he may need further surgery. Police have also booked a witness in the property dispute case who was present at the wedding.

Condemning the attack, the AAP leadership has demanded a thorough and impartial probe, urging authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to justice.
