Gujarat, Oct 30: In a shocking case of drunken driving and hit-and-run, two persons were injured after their motorcycle was hit and dragged for over a kilometre by a car driven by an inebriated teacher on Modasa-Lunawada Road along National Highway 48 in Gujarat’s Mahisagar district.

The disturbing incident, which took place recently, was captured in a 33-second video that has since gone viral. The clip shows the car speeding down the highway with the motorcycle stuck in front, being dragged along the road. One of the riders is seen falling and his hand appears to come under the vehicle’s wheels.

The car driver has been identified as Manish Patel, a teacher, while his brother Mehul Patel, who was also drunk and present in the car, has been arrested. Police have seized the vehicle and several liquor bottles found inside.

The victims have been identified as 50-year-old Dineshbhai and 21-year-old Sunil, both of whom sustained injuries and are currently receiving treatment at Lunawada Civil Hospital and Godhra Civil Hospital.

Mahisagar Deputy Superintendent of Police Kamlesh Vasava said, “A case has been registered against the two accused. The Forensic Science Laboratory team has been called for further examination, and a detailed investigation is underway.”

He added that authorities are also initiating action to cancel the teacher’s driving licence.

Police sources said both accused were heavily intoxicated at the time of the crash, which occurred when the car rammed into the motorcycle from behind at high speed. The recklessness of the act and the extent of the dragging have sparked outrage among locals, with many demanding strict punishment for the accused.
