New Delhi, Oct 31: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) on Thursday said that since January this year, over 2,790 Indian nationals who were illegally residing in the United States have been deported and returned home after verification of their credentials.

Addressing the media during his weekly briefing, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “Since January of this year, we have had around 2,790-plus Indian nationals who did not meet the criteria and were illegally staying there. Their credentials and nationality were verified, and they have since returned. This data is as of October 29.”

Responding to a query about deportations from the United Kingdom, Jaiswal added that around 100 Indian nationals have been deported from the UK so far this year following due verification by Indian authorities.

The spokesperson reiterated that India maintains close coordination with foreign governments on immigration-related matters and continues to facilitate the return of its citizens found to be residing abroad without valid documentation.

The deportations highlight a growing global crackdown on illegal migration, with authorities emphasizing the need for adherence to proper visa and residency norms.
