Mangaluru, Oct 31: The city police have recovered 233 stolen mobile phones reported missing between September 15 and October 30 within the city police commissionerate limits and handed them over to their rightful owners, informed DCP (Law and Order) Mithun H N on Friday.

Speaking at a press conference, the DCP said a special team headed by the ACP of CEN police station was formed to trace the stolen phones. He advised the public to use the ‘Sanchar Saathi’ portal to block their mobile numbers in case of theft or suspicious calls, and to report incidents to the cybercrime helpline at 1930. He stressed the importance of public awareness in tackling such crimes.

DCP Mithun also cautioned citizens about cyber frauds carried out through call merging and conference calls, where fraudsters obtain OTPs and siphon money. Though no such cases have been reported within the Mangaluru commissionerate so far, he urged people to remain alert.
