Lucknow, Nov 1: In a decisive move to curb food and beverage adulteration across Uttar Pradesh, the state government on Friday directed district magistrates to display the names and photographs of individuals caught adulterating consumable items through hoardings and posters at major intersections and public places.

Announcing the move, Commissioner of Food Safety and Drug Administration, Roshan Jacob, said the step aims to dismantle the vast network of food adulterators and counterfeit pharmaceutical dealers operating in the state. Authorities have also been instructed to destroy any adulterated items as soon as they are detected.

The state government has decided to impose a two-way punishment on those found guilty — one under the guidelines of the Food and Drug Safety Administration Department, and another through the registration of criminal cases. Officials believe that this dual action will ensure a complete crackdown on the adulteration racket functioning in different parts of the state.

In another significant step, the UP government also announced strong measures against GST evasion. On Friday, it launched a new application enabling district magistrates to keep a close watch on tax evasion activities. Through this app, officials can monitor GST violations in real time and take immediate action against offenders.

The two measures — against food adulteration and tax evasion — underline the Yogi Adityanath-led government’s commitment to maintaining strict enforcement of law and ensuring public safety and financial integrity in the state.
