Srikakulam, Nov 1: A tragic stampede at Sri Venkateswara Swamy Temple in Kasibugga, Srikakulam district, claimed at least ten lives on Saturday morning, leaving several others injured. The incident occurred around 11.30 am when a massive crowd of devotees gathered at the temple to offer prayers on the occasion of Ekadashi.
Heart-wrenching visuals from the temple premises showed chaos and panic as several devotees collapsed amid the rush. Bystanders and fellow devotees were seen performing CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) on those who had fainted, while others tried to pull out individuals gasping for breath. Women were also seen attempting to revive those lying unconscious on the ground.

According to Kasibugga sub-division in-charge DSP Lakshman Rao, police and rescue teams rushed to the spot and swiftly brought the situation under control.
Expressing deep anguish over the tragedy, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said on X, “The stampede at Kasibugga Venkateswara temple in Srikakulam district anguished me. It is very sad that devotees have died in this unfortunate incident. I convey my deepest sympathies to the families of the victims.”
The Chief Minister directed officials to ensure the best medical care for the injured and asked local authorities and public representatives to oversee the relief operations.
Minister Nara Lokesh also expressed shock and sorrow, saying, “A deep sorrow has gripped us on this Ekadashi day. I extend my deepest condolences to the families of those who lost their lives. The government is providing better medical treatment to those injured in the stampede.”
He further stated that he had spoken to concerned officials and instructed them to provide all necessary assistance to the affected families.
Authorities have launched an inquiry into the cause of the incident, while the condition of several injured devotees remains critical.
