Lucknow, Feb 15: Fuming over an objectionable advertisement published in Kerala, Christians in Lucknow city on Wednesday February 15 demanded immediate arrest of those behind the act, at a protest meeting under the aegis of UP Masihi Sangthan at Christ Church College.
The Christians are protesting against the alleged distortion of famous painting by Leonardo Da Vinci ‘The Last Supper’ which was reproduced in a newspaper in Kerala.
Christians apprehended a conspiracy by ruling Communist Party of India (Marxist) behind the act which had hurt the religious sentiments of the community. The picture was printed in a newspaper February 6 under the title 'Revolutionary Christ turns Obama'.
The UP Masihi Sangthan has submitted a memorandum demanding action against those behind the act to the state governor, Prime Minister and the home minister. The gathering lamented that no action has been taken and the guilty have not been punished or arrested. The UP Masihi Sangthan announced that it would intensify its stir in the coming days.
The meeting was attended by Bishop Anthony, Fr Ignatius, ex-member of Legislative Assembly Peter Fanthome, Rev Able, David Charles, R F Bunny and Rakesh Chattree.
