India’s passenger vehicle sales hit record high in October 2025

New Delhi, Nov 2: India’s passenger vehicle (PV) industry recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in October 2025, powered by the government’s GST rate rationalisation and a surge in festive season demand, according to data shared by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday.

Domestic PV wholesales rose 17.23% year-on-year (YoY) to 4,70,227 units, up from 4,01,105 units in October 2024. This milestone surpassed the previous record of 4,05,522 units set in January 2025, making October the best-ever month for India’s car market.

“The PV industry in India reached a record high in terms of volumes in October, fuelled by the GST rate rationalisation and robust festive demand, as several carmakers recorded their highest-ever monthly wholesales,” Sitharaman wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

Industry experts attributed the surge to lower GST rates, attractive festive offers, and strong consumer sentiment, reflecting rising confidence in the broader economy.

Several leading automakers posted historic sales numbers in October:

• Kia India achieved its best-ever monthly sales since entering the Indian market, delivering 29,556 units.
• Skoda Auto India reported record sales of 8,252 units, its highest monthly tally so far.
• Nissan Motor India sold 9,675 units, marking a robust 45% month-on-month growth.
• Mahindra & Mahindra’s Trucks and Buses division, including exports, registered 2,034 units sold during the month.

Industry analysts say the combination of tax relief, festive promotions, and new model launches helped lift sales momentum, with many dealers reporting unprecedented footfall across showrooms.

The strong performance signals a buoyant recovery in the Indian automotive sector and underscores the positive impact of policy reforms on consumer spending. As the festive season continues, experts expect the momentum to sustain through the remainder of the quarter, setting the stage for another potential record in the coming months.
