Hyderabad, Nov 3: In a horrific road accident, at least 16 people lost their lives when a truck loaded with gravel collided head-on with a Telangana State RTC bus near Mirjaguda, close to Chevella in Vikarabad district, on Monday morning.
According to Chevella ACP B Kishan, the RTC bus had started from Tandur and was heading towards Chevella when tragedy struck. “The truck was carrying a heavy load of gravel. As of now, we can confirm that 16 people, including the truck driver and several bus passengers, have died in the accident,” he said.

Rajendranagar DCP Yogesh Goutam informed that the truck was on the wrong side of the road when it hit the bus. “We are verifying whether the driver was trying to overtake or was driving on the wrong side. The accident occurred on the Bijapur highway. Rescue operations are ongoing, and the injured are being shifted to nearby hospitals. Traffic has been diverted on both sides,” the DCP added.
At the time of the accident, the bus was carrying over 50 passengers. The load of gravel from the truck fell onto the bus after the impact, worsening the situation for those trapped inside.
Expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy conveyed his condolences to the bereaved families. In a post on X, the CMO stated that the Chief Minister has directed officials to rush to the site and carry out immediate relief and rescue operations. The Chief Secretary and DGP have been instructed to shift the injured to Hyderabad for better medical care, while available ministers were asked to reach the spot and oversee the situation.
Police said the accident occurred near Khanapur Gate under Chevella police station limits, and a detailed investigation is underway.
The incident has sent shockwaves across the state, with rescue teams working tirelessly to clear the wreckage and ensure all victims receive timely aid.
