Mathura, Nov 3: A shocking incident unfolded in Vrindavan on Friday night when a 50-year-old man allegedly shot dead his father, a prominent beedi manufacturer, before turning the gun on himself after a heated argument over his drinking habit, police said.
The tragedy occurred at the family’s Gaura Nagar Colony residence, where 75-year-old industrialist Suresh Chandra Agarwal, owner of the well-known Dinesh-555 Beedi brand, lived with his family.

According to police, the accused Naresh Agarwal used his licensed .32-bore pistol to fire a bullet at his father’s chest before killing himself in the home’s prayer room.
Family members told police that the argument began around 9 pm when Naresh was drinking at home. His father objected to the habit, leading to a heated exchange. In a fit of rage, Naresh reportedly shot his father and moments later turned the weapon on himself.
Hearing the gunshots, family members rushed to the scene and found both men lying in separate pools of blood. They were taken to Ramakrishna Mission Hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Circle Officer (CO) Sadar Sandeep Singh said that police and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene, including the firearm. “Preliminary findings indicate that the son shot his father and then himself after a personal argument. Legal formalities are being completed and further investigation is underway,” he said.
Suresh Chandra Agarwal had founded Dinesh Beedi decades ago, later expanding operations across multiple states, making 555 Beedi a household name in the trade.
Local business leaders described Agarwal as a respected industrialist with major investments in Mathura, Vrindavan, and West Bengal. They said Naresh was known for his social work but had frequent issues with alcohol and a short temper.
Both bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination, and police have urged anyone with additional information about the case to contact the Sadar Police Station.
