Mangaluru, Nov 3: In a significant move against illegal cattle trade, the Rural police intercepted a goods vehicle transporting a cow without proper permission in Malluru village, near the Badriyanagar area, under the jurisdiction of the Rural police station.
Acting on specific intelligence, assistant sub-inspector Arun Kumar, accompanied by a police team, stopped and inspected a goods vehicle at Kanjilakodi in Malluru. The vehicle, driven by Joseph Nilesh D’Adda and accompanied by Majid from Kannur, was found carrying a cow from Kannur to Kalai without any valid authorisation.

“The transport of cattle without permission not only violates the law but also puts the animals at risk,” said assistant sub-inspector Arun Kumar. “We acted promptly to prevent the illegal activity and ensure the safety of the cow,” he said.
The accused were immediately taken into custody for further legal proceedings. The cow has been handed over to a goshala (cattle shelter) with the approval of the court.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of deputy superintendent of police Vijay Kranti and directed by police inspector Gaviraj of the South sub-division. Authorities emphasised that the police will continue strict vigilance to curb illegal cattle trade in rural areas.
“Our priority is to protect livestock and enforce the law,” the DSP said. “Citizens are urged to report any suspicious activities related to cattle transport,” he added.
