New Delhi, Nov 4: RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, the Opposition’s Chief Ministerial candidate in Bihar, on Tuesday outlined a range of farmer- and women-centric promises as the first phase of the state Assembly elections approaches on November 6, with the second phase set for November 11.
Drawing on his political experience, Tejashwi sought to build on existing schemes introduced by Nitish Kumar’s NDA government. He pledged free electricity for irrigation, and an additional Rs 300 per quintal for paddy and Rs 400 per quintal for wheat over the Minimum Support Price (MSP). He also proposed granting Primary Agricultural Credit Society (PACS) representatives official public status and providing honorarium for PACS managers, while promising to strengthen the system to benefit more small and marginal farmers.

On women’s welfare, Tejashwi announced a year-long support of Rs 30,000 under the “Mai Bahin Maan Yojana,” aimed at financial empowerment. His proposals echo some initiatives launched by both the state and Union governments, including the Mukhyamantri Mahila Rojgar Yojana and schemes for education, scholarships, and safety of women.
Observers note that while Tejashwi’s promises reinforce existing frameworks, gaps remain for farmers without PACS access and women outside urban centres. Analysts also suggest that his tenure as Health Minister could inform policies supporting health workers, particularly nurses, with guaranteed employment near their home districts.
The RJD leader’s campaign comes in the final hours before the first phase of polling concludes, with results scheduled to be announced on November 14.
