Karnataka launches first-ever survey on gender minorities to provide economic, educational support

Daijiworld Media Network – Bengaluru

Bengaluru, Nov 6: The Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation has launched the state’s first-ever baseline survey of gender minorities (transgender persons) across Karnataka. The survey is being conducted by members of the transgender community themselves at all district and taluk-level government hospitals.

The main objective of this survey is to collect accurate information on the social and economic conditions of the transgender community and, based on the findings, provide rehabilitation along with social, economic, and educational assistance.

To ensure the survey is carried out efficiently, the corporation has developed a special ‘KARMANI Web Application’, through which data collection is being conducted across the state. A helpline number, 1800 599 2025, has also been launched for queries related to the survey.

The survey will continue daily (excluding holidays) from 9 am to 6 pm until November 18, according to a statement issued by the deputy director of the department of women and child development and the district manager of the Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation.

Officials stated that the state government has taken a significant step toward the holistic development and empowerment of the transgender community through this initiative.
