Panaji, Nov 8: A delegation from Kala Rakhan Mandd met Kala Academy member secretary Shankar Gaonkar on Friday, voicing strong concern over alleged corruption and irregularities in the recent renovation works at the iconic cultural institution.
The members said the academy had been âsadly reduced to an institution plagued by neglect and lack of engagement with the local art community.â They demanded that the academy release its annual activity calendar at the start of each year to enable timely planning and participation by Goan artists.

The delegation also expressed disappointment over the low-key celebration of the 50th year of the prestigious Konkani Drama Competition, calling for greater recognition of Goan art and theatre.
They further urged the government to order an independent inquiry into renovation expenditures to restore transparency and public confidence.
Member secretary Shankar Gaonkar assured that the concerns raised would be taken seriously and necessary corrective measures would be initiated.
