Mangaluru, Nov 9: The Children’s Jubilee celebration of St Sebastian Church, Bendur, was held with great joy and spiritual fervour on November 8.
The celebration began with the Thanksgiving Mass, with Fr Vivek Pinto, assistant parish priest, as the main celebrant. The liturgy and choir were beautifully led by the children, showcasing their active participation in the faith life of the parish.
In his homily, Fr Vivek reflected on the innocence, purity, and joy of children, reminding them that they are the precious gifts of God and the heart of every family and parish. He encouraged them to grow in faith, discipline, and gratitude as they journey forward.


























































The cultural and felicitation programme began in the Centenary Hall. The programme opened with a prayer song rendered melodiously by the catechism teachers, creating a prayerful ambience. Melreena Sequeira (9th Std) welcomed the priests, teachers, parents, and children.
The ceremonial lighting of the lamp was done by the dignitaries: Fr Walter D’Souza vicar, Fr Vivek Pinto and Fr Ozmond D’Souza assistant priests, Fr Arun Lobo principal, Padua College, Vinod D’Souza vice president, Patsy Britto secretary, Deepak D’Souza all commission convener, Mercine Pereira catechism coordinator, Sr Shubha BS Bethany Convent superior, along with selected children.
The highlight of the celebration was the felicitation of children who achieved excellence at the state and national levels in fields such as academics, sports, music, debate, spell bee, magic, and arts.
The achievers’ list was read by Lizzy Fernandes and Sr Valentina Menezes, after which the children were honoured with shawl, mementos and blessings from the parish clergy.
The parish honoured the following talented children: Ashel Jewel Fernandes, Ruelle Sweenie D’Souza, Leander Daniel Pereira, Eyan Noah D’Souza, Joshua Leon Mascarenhas, Ana Nicole D’Souza, Jinora Ruth Rodrigues, Leanna Jean Crasta, Aldreena Diya Rodrigues, Jude Peris Bhatt, Joyline Sequeira, Akin Crasta. The entire parish applauded the young achievers for bringing pride and recognition to the community.
Children from class 1 to 10 presented a series of action songs, dances, skits, and musical performances, each filled with enthusiasm, innocence, and creativity. The vibrant performances captivated the audience and added charm to the jubilee celebration. Adding to the joy of the evening, the catechism teachers presented a meaningful skit based on a Bible parable, followed by an energetic group dance, which was thoroughly appreciated by the gathering.
In his message, Fr Walter D’Souza, the vicar, expressed deep appreciation for the catechism teachers for their dedication, commitment, and tireless service in moulding the spiritual foundation of the children. He encouraged the children to grow in faith, prayer, and good values, emphasising that they are the future of the Church.
A special moment of joy was when the vicar and assistant priests sang a song written and composed by Fr Walter himself, which added a memorable spiritual touch to the evening.
In honour of Catechism Day and the feast of St Charles Borromeo, all catechism teachers were felicitated with flowers and gifts as a gesture of gratitude for their service. Exciting spot games were conducted for the children, followed by prize distribution for the winners. Arvin Neil D’Souza (10th Std) proposed the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the clergy, teachers, parents, volunteers, and participants.
The programme was compered by Salome Elsa D'Silva (8th Std) and Jaylon Samuel Sequeira (8th Std) with confidence and grace.
The celebration concluded with a delicious dinner for all present.
The joyful evening ended with a lively baila dance, where the children danced with great excitement and enthusiasm, marking a perfect end to the Children’s Jubilee.
