Washington, Nov 11: US President Donald Trump on Monday said that the United States is nearing a major deal with India aimed at strengthening economic and security cooperation between the two nations, while also boosting American energy exports and investments in key sectors.

“We’re getting a fair deal, just a fair trade deal,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office during the swearing-in of his new envoy to India, Sergio Gor. “We’re making a deal with India — a much different deal than we had in the past,” he added.

Reaffirming his optimism, Trump said discussions between the two countries were progressing rapidly. “We’re getting close,” he said, suggesting that the upcoming agreement would mark a significant step forward in US-India relations.

The proposed deal is expected to cover trade, energy cooperation, and technology partnerships, deepening the strategic and economic ties between the world’s two largest democracies.
