Raipur, Nov 11: In a shocking incident, a 13-year-old girl in Chhattisgarh’s Khairagarh-Chhuikhadan-Gandai (KCG) district allegedly threw her two young cousins—a four-year-old boy and a two-year-old girl—into a well, killing them both after being repeatedly taunted as a “thief” by villagers and the boy himself, police said on Monday.
According to officials, the tragic incident took place on Sunday. The girl’s father and the father of the deceased children are brothers. The two children went missing in the morning, prompting a frantic search by their family and neighbours. Their bodies were later discovered in a well located in a nearby vegetable garden.

Police said suspicion fell on the 13-year-old as she was last seen with the victims before they disappeared. During questioning, she allegedly confessed to the crime, saying she acted out of anger after the four-year-old boy mocked her by calling her a thief—echoing the taunts she had been enduring from villagers.
“She had reportedly stolen some money and a mobile phone earlier, after which the villagers began calling her a thief. When her cousin repeated the same, she lost her temper and threw both the children into the well,” an investigating officer said.
The girl, a Class 8 student, was remorseful during interrogation, police said. Based on a complaint from the victims’ father, a case has been registered under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and provisions of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.
She has since been sent to a juvenile correctional home.
