Lucknow, Nov 11: A doctor from Lucknow has been arrested in connection with the major explosives seizure in Faridabad and is suspected to have been tasked with setting up the women’s wing of the Pakistan-based terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) in India, according to Delhi Police sources.

The doctor, identified as Dr Shaheen Shahid, is said to have been appointed by the JeM’s women’s division, Jamaat-ul-Mominat, which operates under the leadership of Saadia Azhar, sister of JeM founder Masood Azhar. Dr Shahid was reportedly responsible for establishing and heading the organisation’s Indian wing.

A resident of Lucknow’s Lall Bagh area, Dr Shahid was arrested after the bust of a JeM terror module in Faridabad. Officials said an assault rifle was recovered from her car.

Police sources revealed that Dr Shahid was associated with Al-Falah University and maintained close ties with Muzammil Ganai alias Musaib, a Kashmiri doctor who had been arrested earlier after the seizure of 2,900 kg of explosives and incendiary materials from a rented double-room house in Faridabad.

Investigations are ongoing to determine the extent of Dr Shahid’s involvement and possible links with other JeM operatives across the country.
