Goa should focus on attracting foreign tourists, not unruly domestic visitors: MLA Michael Lobo

Panaji, Nov 13: Expressing concern over the changing nature of Goa’s tourism, MLA Michael Lobo said the state must prioritise bringing back foreign tourists while discouraging domestic visitors who create disturbances in local areas.

“We don’t want tourists who cause trouble to locals or disrupt peace in the locality. Goa needs responsible visitors who respect our culture,” Lobo said.

The legislator highlighted the sharp decline in international tourist arrivals in recent years, noting that foreign visitors once formed the backbone of Goa’s tourism economy. He urged the state government and tourism authorities to take proactive steps to revive the segment.

According to Lobo, enhancing infrastructure, cleanliness, and public safety, combined with targeted global marketing campaigns, is essential to restore Goa’s reputation as a premium international destination and ensure sustainable tourism growth.
