Mangaluru, Nov 15: Beacon Buddies, the peer-counseling club of Expert PU College, Valachil, Mangaluru, organised a unique and engaging quiz competition on child rights to mark Children’s Day. With the objective of spreading awareness and fostering informed student participation, the event adopted an innovative format that made the activity both interactive and inclusive.
Instead of the traditional quiz setup, questions on child rights were displayed on classroom notice boards during the given time. Students were instructed to record their answers and drop them into specially labeled answer boxes placed outside their respective classrooms. This creative method generated tremendous interest and resulted in 1,190 students taking part in the competition. Among them, 87 students achieved a perfect score, reflecting both enthusiasm and awareness among the student community.

The initiative was led and supported by Dr N K Vijayan Karippal, principal, Subrahmanya Udupa, vice principal (academics), Druthi V Hegde, vice principal (administration); Gurudatta N, coaching head; Anitha P Shetty, CRM, along with faculty members and student volunteers of Beacon Buddies. Their collective efforts ensured smooth coordination and a meaningful learning experience for all participants.
Speaking about the programme, the organisers emphasised that the primary goal was not competition but sensitisation, helping students understand their rights, responsibilities, and the importance of standing up for the well-being of children everywhere.
The event concluded with appreciation for the enthusiastic response from students, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to creating a supportive, aware, and responsible youth community.
