Kannur, Nov 16: A wave of grief and disbelief swept through Ettukudukka in the Kankol–Alappadamba panchayat near Payyannur after 41-year-old Aneesh George, a school attendant and booth-level officer (BLO), was found dead at his residence on Sunday.
Aneesh, who was actively involved in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process of the state’s electoral roll, was reportedly under stress related to his BLO duties, according to neighbours and family members.

Shyju V K, a neighbour, recalled the final moments of the day: “He took his family to church in the morning and came back home. We never imagined he would take such an extreme step. He did face some difficulty while locating a few houses during BLO work, but he always managed with help from others. He leaves behind his wife and two children,” he said.
Peringome Police have registered a case of unnatural death under BNSS 194. As per the police report, Aneesh is suspected to have died by suicide, allegedly by hanging himself from a hook in the hall on the upper floor of his house.
Kannur Deputy Commissioner Arun K Vijayan, IAS, stated that the initial inquiry does not indicate work-related pressure. “Aneesh was performing well as a BLO. In the first phase of the SIR process—distribution of enumeration forms—he had completed 77% of the work in his ward under the Payyannur Assembly constituency. The Chief Electoral Officer has sought a detailed report.
A consolidated report will be submitted after reviewing findings from the ERO and the police,” he said.
