Shridham express bomb scare sparks chaos; massive security sweep conducted at Mathura Junction

New Delhi, Nov 16: Tension and anxiety gripped passengers aboard the Nizamuddin-bound Shridham Express on Sunday after railway authorities received an alarming message claiming that a bomb had been planted in one of the train’s general coaches.

According to sources, the alert—first communicated to officials in Bhopal—sent security agencies into high gear as the 12192 Jabalpur–Hazrat Nizamuddin Shridham Express made its way toward the national capital.

The train, which departed from Jabalpur, was halted at multiple stations en route for precautionary checks. However, the most extensive search unfolded at Mathura Junction, where the train arrived at platform number two at 10.02 am.

Station Director N.P. Singh informed that teams from the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Government Railway Police (GRP), and a bomb squad, along with sniffer dogs, conducted a thorough inspection inside the general coach mentioned in the alert. Seats, luggage racks, and passenger belongings were scanned meticulously.

Despite the intense operation, no suspicious object was recovered. Officials later confirmed that the alert was a hoax, though it caused considerable delay and worry among travellers.

The Shridham Express was subsequently given clearance to proceed toward Delhi. Meanwhile, railway authorities have launched an investigation to identify the source of the false alarm, which sparked unnecessary panic among passengers and staff.
