Vasco, Nov 18: A terrifying case of armed robbery jolted Baina in the early hours of Tuesday when a gang of 7–8 masked intruders barged into the seventh-floor apartment of businessman Sagar Nayak at Chamundi Arcade around 2.30 am. The attackers, armed with iron and aluminium rods, are suspected to have entered the residence from the rear side of the building while the family was asleep.
The gang allegedly forced open the bedroom door and launched a brutal assault on Sagar, his wife Harsha, their young daughter, and Harsha’s ailing mother. When Sagar resisted and refused to hand over the keys, the intruders reportedly thrashed him severely, leaving him bleeding profusely. The family members were later tied up and threatened with death as the assailants searched the flat.

Large quantities of gold ornaments and cash were kept at home after Diwali and ahead of an upcoming event at Partagal Math, making the residence a lucrative target. The robbers fled with the valuables by about 3.05 am.
Harsha, in her police statement, said the attackers appeared to be young and spoke in a “Bihar-like dialect.” She added that the group seemed familiar with the building layout, deliberately avoiding CCTV cameras—indicating possible prior knowledge. All intruders had their faces covered with masks and helmets.
Sagar, who sustained multiple injuries, is undergoing treatment and is stated to be stable. His wife and daughter were also hurt in the attack.
South Goa SP Tikam Singh Verma visited the spot and confirmed the incident. Police teams are now scanning CCTV footage and other clues in an effort to identify and nab the culprits.
