Udupi, Nov 18 : Kasturba Hospital, Manipal has launched a comprehensive vision clinic at Manipal. Residents of Manipal and nearby regions can now access an advanced and patient-friendly eye care facility. It is located in the Basic Life Science Building near HDFC Bank, Tiger Circle.
The clinic aims to serve as a one-stop centre for complete vision care, providing expert consultations, screening for eye diseases, and instant prescription fulfilment under one roof.
The clinic was inaugurated today by Dr Sharath K Rao, pro vice chancellor (Health Sciences), MAHE, Manipal, who highlighted the importance of accessibility and convenience in healthcare delivery. “We aim to make world-class eye care accessible to everyone without disrupting their work or study commitments. The extended timing is a key feature of this new service,” he said.


Dr Anil K Bhat, dean- KMC Manipal, Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, COO- Manipal Cluster, Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, Dr Yogish Kamath, professor and head, Department of Ophthalmology were present.
Dr Sudhakar Kantipudi, COO, Manipal Cluster, noted that “the Vision Clinic offers consultations by an experienced ophthalmologist, ensuring accurate diagnosis and personalized treatment plans. He added that the clinic has been designed to accommodate the busy schedules of students and working professionals, offering extended hours from 1 pm to 7 pm”.
A key strength of the facility, as highlighted by Dr Avinash Shetty, medical superintendent, is its seamless integration with the main Kasturba Hospital. “If any advanced ophthalmic diagnostics or specialised treatment is required, the clinic will facilitate smooth referral and continuity of care at the main hospital,” he said.

Evaluation for Refractive Errors: Comprehensive assessments to determine the need for vision correction along with accurate spectacle prescriptions.
Screening for Common Eye Diseases: Early detection of conditions such as glaucoma, cataract, and diabetic eye disease to help prevent long-term vision loss.
One of the major highlights of the facility is its attached optical unit, allowing patients to receive their spectacle solutions without the need to travel elsewhere.
