Govt advises TV channels to show restraint in coverage of Red Fort blast case

New Delhi, Nov 18: The Union government on Tuesday issued a formal advisory urging all private satellite news channels to maintain caution and responsibility while reporting on developments linked to the recent Red Fort attack in Delhi.

According to the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, certain channels have aired content that appears to justify the actions of individuals allegedly involved in the blast, including videos explaining methods of creating explosive devices. The ministry warned that such broadcasts could unintentionally incite violence, disturb public order, and endanger national security.

The advisory reminded broadcasters to follow the Programme and Advertising Code under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, highlighting that such content may violate Rules 6(1)(d), 6(1)(e), and 6(1)(h) of the Cable Television Network Rules. Channels have been urged to exercise the highest degree of discretion and sensitivity when covering sensitive terror-related issues.

The notice comes in the wake of the Red Fort blast, which was carried out by a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) module operating from Faridabad, claiming more than 13 lives. Intelligence agencies are closely monitoring online propaganda, especially material circulated by Pakistan-based accounts attempting to radicalise Indian youth. Officials noted that these groups often misuse selective TV footage to construct misleading narratives.

Security assessments also indicate that Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) may be attempting a larger recruitment push in India and could be seeking to establish modules similar to the one involved in the Faridabad operation.

Investigations into the blast are still underway, with agencies working to dismantle associated networks and counter the spread of coordinated misinformation.
