New Delhi, Nov 19: The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) on Wednesday highlighted that the upcoming Aadhaar App’s offline verification feature will provide a secure, convenient and privacy-preserving method of identity verification—reducing the need to share physical or photocopied Aadhaar documents, which often leads to misuse or fraud.
Speaking at a webinar titled “Offline Verification using the Aadhaar App”, UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar said the objective is to encourage widespread adoption of offline verification, build a strong ecosystem around it, and increase awareness about the new App’s capabilities ahead of its formal launch. Over 250 representatives from various sectors participated in the session.

During the webinar, UIDAI officials detailed how offline verification empowers users to share complete or selective Aadhaar details, and even verify presence through offline face authentication—without transmitting sensitive data online.
DDG Vivek Chandra Verma explained the technical foundation and integration pathways, emphasising that the system has been designed to be scalable and future-ready for diverse use cases.
Officials also stressed the benefits for Aadhaar holders, including:
• Ability to store Aadhaar details of up to five family members in one app
• Full control over what information is shared with verification entities
• Selective data disclosure options
• One-tap biometric lock/unlock for enhanced security
• Easy mobile number and address update features
The session saw active participation, with UIDAI addressing numerous queries from ecosystem partners. The authority encouraged organisations to explore onboarding as Offline Verification Seeking Entities (OVSEs) and leverage the technology for secure, paperless identity authentication.
UIDAI also hinted at additional features planned for the new Aadhaar App, aimed at strengthening India’s digital identity infrastructure and making secure verification more accessible for residents nationwide.
