CBSE report exposes shocking negligence in class 4 girl’s suicide case

Jaipur, Nov 21: In a heartbreaking case that has sent shockwaves across the country, the CBSE probe has confirmed that a nine-year-old Class 4 student in a prestigious Jaipur school died by suicide after enduring 18 months of bullying and receiving no support despite repeatedly pleading for help.

According to the report, the child, Amaira Kumar Meena, approached her class teacher five times on the day of the incident, seeking assistance for nearly 45 minutes, but the teacher allegedly ignored her, shouted at her, and dismissed her concerns. Feeling humiliated, isolated and helpless, Amaira left her classroom on the ground floor on November 1 and jumped from the fourth floor of the school building, dying on the spot.

The CBSE inquiry paints a distressing picture of what unfolded inside the classroom on the final day. Hours before the tragedy, Amaira was seen laughing, dancing, and eating chocolates and golgappa with her friends. Trouble began after 11 am, when a group of boys wrote objectionable content on a digital slate. Amaira’s reaction, captured on CCTV, showed embarrassment and distress as she repeatedly asked her classmates to erase the content. Instead of helping her, the teacher allegedly raised her voice, leaving the child visibly shaken. She even skipped lunch due to the emotional turmoil.

The report highlights that teacher Puneeta Sharma failed to intervene despite Amaira’s repeated attempts to seek help. The panel noted that her “non-response, lack of hearing and absence of empathy” directly contributed to the child’s extreme step. It stated that had the teacher acted promptly, the situation would not have escalated to this fatal level.

The investigation revealed that Amaira had been bullied for a year and a half, facing teasing, abusive language and humiliation from classmates. Her parents had complained several times.

In September, her father approached the teacher after she was bullied by a boy, only to be told that the child “needs to adjust”. In October, the same boy allegedly twisted her simple “hello” into “I love you” in front of others, yet the school staff did not intervene. In May last year, when another child showed her the middle finger, the complaint again went unanswered.

The CBSE report strongly criticised the school for failing to provide a safe environment, stating that the management and class teacher were fully aware of Amaira’s ongoing harassment but took no meaningful action. It concluded that the school failed to maintain a healthy atmosphere and lacked any system to deal with bullying or emotional distress among students.

The findings have intensified concerns over student safety and mental well-being in schools, with parents demanding strict accountability for the negligence that cost a young girl her life.
