Mangaluru, Nov 21: Shivaji Friends Circle, MSEZ Colony Residents, Kulai, RYAN International School Interact Club, and the Rotary Club of Mangalore Coastal came together in a meaningful environmental initiative to pay tribute to Padma Shri Saalumarada Thimmakka, the renowned environmentalist celebrated for her lifelong dedication to tree planting.
At the MSEZ Colony Park, participants planted 25 fruit-bearing saplings as a living tribute to Thimmakka’s legacy. Volunteers pledged to nurture and protect these saplings, embodying her ethos of long-term stewardship and environmental care. The drive also included a park cleaning and beautification effort, ensuring a safe and welcoming space for elderly residents and visitors.

A representative from Shivaji Friends Circle remarked, “We are inspired by Saalumarada Thimmakka’s tireless dedication. By planting and caring for these trees, we hope to cultivate not only greenery but also a spirit of responsibility within our community.”
The initiative strongly echoed the vision of chairman sir Dr AF Pinto, who advocates “Each One Plant One” as a guiding principle for sustainable living. Students of Ryan International School Interact Club actively participated, reflecting the school’s commitment to community service and environmental responsibility. Their involvement reinforced the belief that young citizens play a vital role in shaping a greener, healthier, and more inclusive urban future.
