New Delhi, Nov 24: The Indian junior women’s hockey squad, captained by Jyoti Singh, departed for Santiago, Chile on Sunday night to compete in the FIH Women’s Junior Hockey World Cup 2025, slated for December 1–13. The 20-member contingent, which includes two alternates, took off from Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport with high spirits and clear ambitions.
India has been drawn into Pool C alongside Germany, Ireland and Namibia. The team will open its campaign on December 1 against Namibia, followed by a high-stakes clash with Germany on December 3 and a pool-ender against Ireland on December 5. Only the top teams will advance to the knockout rounds scheduled from December 7 to 13.

The tournament field features a strong global lineup, with the Netherlands, Japan, host nation Chile and Malaysia grouped in Pool A; Argentina, Belgium, Zimbabwe and Wales competing in Pool B; and England, South Africa, China and Austria forming Pool D. Australia, Spain, Canada and Scotland will battle in Pool E, while Pool F includes powerhouses such as the USA, Korea, New Zealand and Uruguay.
Led by chief coach Tushar Khandker, Team India maintains a balanced and versatile squad. Goalkeepers Nidhi and Engil Harsha Rani Minz will handle duties between the posts. The defensive unit — Manisha, Lalthanlualangi, Sakshi Shukla, Puja Sahoo and Nandini — aims to provide stability against the world’s best young attacking sides.
Midfield strength comes from Sakshi Rana, Ishika, Sunelita Toppo, skipper Jyoti Singh, Khaidem Shileima Chanu and Binima Dhan, while the forward line — featuring Sonam, Purnima Yadav, Kanika Siwach, Hina Bano and Sukhveer Kaur — promises pace, precision and scoring depth. Alternates Priyanka Yadav and Parwati Topno will travel with the squad.
Speaking before departure, coach Khandker expressed confidence in the team’s preparation: “We are all ready and very excited to travel to Chile. The girls are fully motivated to perform their best at the World Cup.”
With a blend of experience, promise and determination, India will look to make a strong impression on the global stage.
