Jashpur, Nov 25: A shocking incident from Chhattisgarh’s Jashpur district has led to the arrest of a private school principal after a 15-year-old class 9 student died by suicide, leaving behind a note accusing him of molestation and physical abuse.

The teenager was found hanging in her hostel room on Sunday. Police confirmed that the suicide note contained serious allegations of “bad touch,” molestation, and abusive behaviour by the principal, which allegedly drove her to the extreme step.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shahi Mohan Singh said the principal was taken into custody immediately after the note was recovered. “The student has mentioned molestation and sexual harassment by the principal. Based on this, the accused is being questioned,” he stated.

Following the post-mortem, the girl’s body was handed over to her family, and the police have sealed her room as part of the investigation.

Illegally run hostel under scanner

The incident has also exposed major irregularities within the school, run by the Rural Education Committee and offering classes from 6th to 12th grade.

Preliminary findings revealed that the victim was staying in an illegally operated hostel inside the campus. The hostel housed 33 students — 22 boys and 11 girls.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate of Baghicha, Pradeep Rathiya, said further details would be released after a detailed probe.

The Jashpur Collector has formed a special team to investigate the circumstances that led to the tragedy. The team has been directed to examine all allegations of mental and physical abuse and submit a comprehensive report within seven days.
