IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi dies in road accident

Kalaburagi, Nov 25: IAS officer Mahantesh Bilagi, managing director of Karnataka State Minerals Corporation Limited (KSMCL), has succumbed to injuries sustained in a severe road accident near Kalaburagi.

Bilagi was travelling from Vijayapura to Kalaburagi in an Innova car when the accident occurred near Gounahalli in Jewargi taluk of Kalaburagi district. The impact left him critically injured. He was rushed to a private hospital in Kalaburagi, where he was undergoing treatment. Despite efforts by doctors, he breathed his last.

A total of three people, including Bilagi, died in the accident. The incident took place within the jurisdiction of the Jewargi police station.

Bilagi, a 2012-batch Karnataka-cadre IAS officer, had earlier served as the managing director of BESCOM. He was residing with his wife and daughter near Mehkri Circle in Bengaluru.

Police have registered a case and further investigation is underway.
