Ahmedabad, Nov 26: Ahmedabad has officially been confirmed as the host city for the 2030 Commonwealth Games, marking a historic milestone as the event completes 100 years since its inception in 1930. Delegates from 74 Commonwealth nations ratified India’s bid during the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly, following a detailed evaluation by the Commonwealth Sport Evaluation Committee.
The Executive Board had earlier recommended Ahmedabad as the preferred host, paving the way for India to stage the Centenary edition of the Games. Commonwealth Sport President Dr Donald Rukare hailed the announcement, calling it the beginning of a “new golden era” for the sporting movement. He highlighted India’s scale, youth, cultural richness and sporting passion as key strengths, adding that interest from other nations to host future editions remains strong.

President of the Commonwealth Games Association of India, PT Usha, expressed gratitude, stating that India is “deeply honoured” by the trust placed in it. She said the 2030 Games would bring together athletes and communities from across the Commonwealth in a spirit of friendship and progress.
Indian boxer and world champion Jaismine Lamboria also celebrated the announcement, saying it was a proud moment for the nation. She added that competing on home soil in 2030 would be a major motivation for athletes and that Ahmedabad would offer a warm and vibrant welcome to visitors and teams from around the world.
