Panaji, Nov 30: In the aftermath of the recent gunshot incident in Podoshe, Sattari, a team from Valpoi Police Station, supported by the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), carried out a detailed combing operation at the Housing Board area in Zariwada, Podoshe. The search focused on House No. 131/13, and was conducted in the presence of the resident, Nandkumar Mahadev Apte.

Initial inspections revealed nothing suspicious. However, officers soon noticed a locked storeroom adjacent to the main house. When Apte refused to open it, police forced their way in. Inside, they discovered a blue barrel containing a long bag, which held a professional air gun equipped with a scope.

Apte had no licence for the weapon and had been using it unlawfully. During questioning, he admitted to firing the gunshots heard in the locality, claiming he did so to scare away individuals who allegedly gathered near his home late at night for drinking and other illegal activities.

Police have taken custody of the weapon and further investigations are underway.
