Colva, Dec 1: The gram sabha of the Colva village panchayat, scheduled for Sunday, was postponed following the enforcement of the model code of conduct ahead of the December 20 Zilla Panchayat elections.

The meeting was expected to take up the Colva beach master plan, drawing significant interest among villagers. Officials from the Tourism Department were to brief residents on key features of the plan and respond to queries raised by gram sabha members.

Social activist and gram sabha member Judith Almeida urged the panchayat to reschedule the meeting immediately after the ZP polls, stressing that villagers have long awaited clarity on several unanswered questions from the Tourism Department. “We hope the postponed gram sabha is held soon after December 20 to allow Colva residents to voice their concerns and suggestions on the beach master plan,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Curtorim village panchayat’s gram sabha, also slated for Sunday, was postponed following instructions from the Director of Panchayats.
