Brahmavar: Agency appointed to prepare detailed project report for service roads & flyovers

Brahmavar, Dec 3: An agency has been appointed to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the construction of service roads and flyovers in Brahmavar, Kota, Padubidri and Mulki, informed Govindaraj Hegde, president of the National Highway-66 Protection Committee.

Govindaraj Hegde, addressing the media during a press conference held at Hotel Ashraya Hall in Brahmavar, on December 3. He informed, in the presence of MP Kota Srinivas Poojary, the committee had presented its demands in detail at a meeting held in the Deputy Commissioner’s office. The MP and officials responded positively to their demands.

The committee had demanded the construction of a 7-pillar flyover in Brahmavar, service roads on both sides from Bhadragiri to Mabukala Bridge, and median openings at Doopadakatte, Akashvani Bypass and Uppinakote. In this regard, a Brahmavar shutdown was planned on September 4, and it was decided to build a temporary service road through public participation (Shramadana) from Fortune Hotel, Uppinakote to Dharmavaram Auditorium. However, the protest was postponed following the assurance given by MP Kota Srinivas Poojary.

As promised in the meeting held in the presence of the deputy commissioner, the MP initiated correspondence with the Union Transport Minister, the National Highways Authority, Project directors and Regional Office officials. Following the direction of the Union Transport Minister, engineers have been appointed to prepare the DPR for the service roads and other long-term solutions. The engineers will arrive within 15 days and begin preparing the DPR in Kota, Brahmavar, Mulki and Padubidri. Further information will be provided by the committee in due course.

Govindaraj Hegde expressed gratitude to the MP, the union minister and the officials for responding to the committee’s requests.

Addressing the media, Hotel Ashraya owner Rajaram Shetty said that the ongoing works in Brahmavar are progressing slowly. If the pace is not increased, it will cause inconvenience to local commercial centres and the general public. He urged the authorities to complete the works at the earliest.

Present at the press conference included Grama Panchayat members Devaki Poojary, Niranjan Shetty, Hararadi Dayanand Shetty, Bus Owners’ Association representative Vasanth Shetty, Car and Driver Owners’ Association member Ramesh, Auto Drivers’ Association representatives Raju Poojary and Raju Salian; Tempo Owners’ Association representatives Vijay Kumar, Santosh Poojary and Ganesh Sriyan; Brahmavar Development Committee members Preeth Hegde and Joyson; Building Workers’ Union representative Subhas; CITU representative Shashidhar Golla; SMS Vidya Samsthe’s Alvares D’Silva; Gilbert D’Silva and Albert D’Silva and others.
