Beltangady, Feb 19: "There are many deserving candidates for the post of Lokayukta. However, the state government is dilly-dallying in making the appointment. This has been damaging the faith people had in the Lokayukta institution," said former Lokayukta Justice Santhosh Hegde.

He spoke to reporters at the Buntara Bhavana, Guruvayanakere, on Saturday February 18.

“The government has been lambasted about the appointment of Lokayukta and the institution is not able to deliver its best without a head. Hence, appointment of Lokayukta should be made immediately,” said Justice Hegde.

He also pointed out that there is a conspiracy behind delaying the appointment of the Lokayukta.

"The delay favours the politicians. Already ‘B’ reports have been given in two cases. The CM had assured of appointing the Lokayukta in 10 days giving the reason of Udupi-Chikmagalur by-election," added Justice Hegde.
