Patna, Dec 6: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has achieved global recognition as his name has been listed in the World Book of Records (WBR), London for being the only individual in independent India to be sworn in as chief minister of any state ten times. WBR congratulated Nitish for taking the oath as CM of Bihar for a record 10th time, marking a historic milestone in Indian democracy.

In its official letter, WBR highlighted that from 1947 to 2025, no other individual has served ten terms as chief minister. The recognition underscores Nitish Kumar’s commitment, visionary leadership, and the unwavering trust of the people of Bihar. WBR noted that his repeated terms not only reflect a personal achievement but also stand as a proud moment for the nation.

The letter further emphasised Nitish’s consistent contributions in governance, development, social welfare, and administrative stability, inspiring millions across India. As a mark of this rare accomplishment, WBR will issue an official certificate acknowledging his record-setting feat.

Nitish Kumar took the oath of office along with 26 ministers on November 20, 2025. Reacting to the recognition, JD(U) MLC and spokesperson Neeraj Kumar described it as a matter of pride for both Bihar and India. “This acknowledges Nitish’s relentless efforts and vision for Bihar’s development. It will inspire the workers of JD(U), who have been the backbone of the party’s achievements,” he said.

Among India’s longest-serving chief ministers, Pawan Kumar Chamling (Sikkim) served over 24 years, 5 months, and 14 days, followed by Naveen Patnaik (Odisha), Gegong Apang (Arunachal Pradesh), Jyoti Basu (West Bengal), M Karunanidhi (Tamil Nadu), Lal Thanhawla (Mizoram), and Virbhadra Singh (Himachal Pradesh).

WBR, London is a globally recognised institution dedicated to documenting extraordinary achievements, honouring eminent personalities, institutions, and historically significant sites worldwide for their contributions, impact, and cultural heritage value.
