New York, Dec 7: Meta on Friday announced a series of commercial AI data partnerships with prominent news publishers—including USA Today, People Inc., CNN, Fox News, The Daily Caller, the Washington Examiner and France’s Le Monde—to deliver “real-time” news updates through its Meta AI chatbot, reports Axios and Reuters.
Under the new agreements, Meta AI will surface information and provide direct links to articles from participating publishers whenever users ask news-related questions. The company said the move would help users access “more diverse content sources” and discover timely, relevant updates tailored to their interests. Meta also plans to widen its network of partners and introduce additional features over time. Financial terms of the deals remain undisclosed.

Axios reports that the partnerships grant Meta access to partner news content, enabling the AI assistant to provide immediate responses on breaking news and current events—similar to its earlier multiyear arrangement with Reuters, under which publishers are compensated for use of their material. Meta says the broader goal is to give users a richer range of verified global news, entertainment and lifestyle content.
Integrated across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp and Messenger, Meta AI will continue to cite sources and offer direct links to publishers’ platforms for users seeking real-time information.
The latest partner list includes several conservative-leaning outlets such as Fox News, The Daily Caller and the Washington Examiner—reflecting Meta’s long-running challenges around news partnerships and content-moderation politics.
Notably, while users can still share news on Meta’s platforms, Facebook is no longer positioned as a news-distribution hub. The company shuttered its News Tab in the US in 2024 and ended its publisher payout program in 2022, shifting its focus toward viral video and entertainment-driven content.
