Chandigarh, Dec 12: In a grand gesture celebrating Punjab’s contribution to India’s cricketing glory, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Thursday felicitated the 2025 ICC Women’s World Cup–winning stars from the state and inaugurated two newly dedicated stands named after Harmanpreet Kaur and Yuvraj Singh at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur.
Ahead of the second T20I clash between India and South Africa, the CM presented ?11 lakh each to Harmanpreet Kaur, Harleen Deol, and Amanjot Kaur, whose stellar performances played a crucial role in India lifting the coveted trophy. Indian fielding coach Munish Bali was also felicitated with Rs 5 lakh for his contribution to the team’s success.

AAP Punjab took to Instagram to share the moment, stating that the Chief Minister personally honoured the players and the coaching staff. The post added that the newly built stadium stands named after 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh and 2025 Women’s World Cup–winning captain Harmanpreet Kaur were formally inaugurated during the ceremony.
Punjab stars shine on global stage
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur led India from the front with 260 runs in eight innings, averaging 32.50, including two half-centuries and a top score of 89.
Harleen Deol made significant contributions with 169 runs in five innings, while Amanjot Kaur stood out with her all-round brilliance—scoring 146 runs, taking six wickets, and taking the crucial catch of South African captain Laura Wolvaardt in the final.
India triumphed in the final at Navi Mumbai by restricting South Africa to 246 all out while defending 299, with Deepti Sharma bagging a memorable five-wicket haul to accompany her vital half-century.
Tribute to Yuvraj Singh’s 2011 heroics
Punjab’s cricketing heritage was further honoured as the stadium unveiled a stand dedicated to Yuvraj Singh, commemorating his legendary performance in the 2011 ICC World Cup, where he amassed 362 runs, took 15 wickets, and won the Player of the Tournament award.
